This week’s ‘Inside Scoop’ is from one of our favourite designers Sophie Allport and her gorgeous fox red labrador puppy Florrie.
Sophie: I’m a British Designer that graduated from University with a degree in Graphic Art & Design, specialising in illustration. Six years ago my brother left his city job in London and joined me to set up Sophie Allport Ltd. As a qualified chartered accountant, Jem has supplied the business acumen and drive to expand sourcing and sales of the Sophie Allport range, leaving me free to concentrate on design and product development. We produce fine bone china, kitchen and home textiles, oilcloth and stationery. Everything from oven gloves and tea towels to handbags and teapots! A lot of the designs are inspired by my love of nature and the countryside and our recent two collections – Terrier and Labrador – were certainly inspired by my neighbours Black Labrador (Nell) and Terrier (Tess) that I often look after. We have recently got our own puppy Florrie. She is a Fox Red Labrador and totally adorable. She was the small one in the litter and I immediately fell in love with her. As a mother of three boys I had to get a little girl!
We asked Sophie and Florrie the seven Wagging World questions.
WW: What is your favourite food?
Sophie: I love a family roast on Sunday. I enjoy putting on my Sophie Allport Apron and whipping up a culinary delight. I have three boys and it’s the perfect meal to fill them all up and gives me left overs to cook with for the rest of the week. I grew up having family Sunday lunches and it’s a very special time when we all sit down together and have a good chat over a delicious meal.
Florrie: I’m like most Labradors and won’t turn my nose up at anything. I would love to join the family and have a Sunday roast too but I just get biscuits twice daily but if I’m really good I sometimes get to lick the roasting tin!
WW: What is your worst habit?
Sophie: I’m told that I snore at night but I can’t believe that’s true!
Florrie: I know I’m not popular when I get over excited in the garden. Last time I pulled down a beautiful climbing hydrangea and had a proper telling off! My Mum loves her garden and works very hard to make it look so lovely.
WW: What is your biggest dislike?
Sophie: My boys fighting with each other!
Florrie: Not being allowed upstairs. Although I always know when it’s a weekend and am very pleased with myself when I sneak upstairs and wake everyone up!
WW: What is your favourite walk?
Sophie: Walking along the wide open beaches on the north Norfolk coast is magical. The big skies and fresh sea air is so invigorating. Great at exhausting the boys and Florrie!
Florrie: I love racing along the beach and playing in the sea but I’m equally happy chasing after hares and bunnies on a cross country romp!
WW: What’s your best quality?
Sophie: Well I’ve got to say my painting ability! I’ve done it since I was a young child and always wanted a career where I could use my art. I feel very lucky that I’ve managed to create a business out of something that I love to do.
Florrie: I entertain the boys brilliantly and instantly put a smile on anyone’s face that sees me!
WW: What would be your perfect day?
Sophie: My perfect day would be spent relaxing at home with my family. Going for a long walk or bike ride with Florrie and coming home to a warm fire and a family board game. I’m often away with work commitments so I really value those family days when I can spend time with my husband and the boys.
Florrie: Being surrounded by people and having plenty of fuss and lots of running around outside.
WW: Do you think you look alike?
Sophie: Well we both have brown eyes and honey coloured hair! Although I pay a lot of money for mine!!
Florrie: No – not at all! I have four legs and Mum has two for starters!
Nell the labrador and inspiration and model for the labrador range looking incredibly beautiful.
Tess having a little relax and a look at the Terrier Oilcloth Stamford Bag inspired by her image.
